Saint Francis Men's Cross-Country began in 1960 under the
coaching of a senior student, John Perkins. This
team became J.V. champions of the C.A.L. that year.
The following year, Mr. Hal Conrad took over as coach,
requiring all track athletes to participate in
Cross-Country, "unless they go out for
football." The team once again took the J.V.
championship. The next year, in 1962, the team
became champions in the C.A.L. on the Varsity level, with
John Cassidy an individual champion. Dan Kerr
became the coach in 1963. In 1964, he coached Mike
Church, who set the St. Francis record of the 2.2 mile
Crystal Springs course- 13:47.
In 1966, Mr. Tom Tuite took over the the program.
He coached teams winning 7 WCAL championships and 4
Regional championships. His assistant coaches were
Forrest Jamison (1966), John Dozier (1972-79), Jim Bowler
(1980-82), and Brian Curley (1983). Mr. Curly took
over the following year. In his 14 years as head
coach, Mr. Curly has led the team to 3 C.C.S. titles (and
one protested second). He has been assisted by
Roberta (Bert) Marquette (1984), Mike Kemp (1988-89),
Paul Dean (1990), and Mr. Dave Frank (1991-present), as
well as various other teachers and former students.
