Saint Francis High School was founded in 1955 in the Holy Cross tradition of educating the hearts and minds of young people to serve the world. The educational heritage of the Brothers of Holy Cross began in France and was established in the United States with the founding of the University of Notre Dame in 1844. Reverend Basil Moreau, founder of Holy Cross, emphasized the necessity of educating young people to be not only scholars but also active citizens who live out their Christian values.
At Saint Francis High School, this rich heritage of education and service continues as the school strives to develop the well-rounded individual- a person who grows spiritually, intellectually and socially. The spiritual development of each student is the focus of Holy Cross, as students are challenged to live up to the ideals of our Catholic faith through religious studies classes, sacramental opportunites, and Christian Service programs. While this spiritual development is the foundation of the school's mission, a traditional yet rigorous and innovative colleg prepatory curriculum, which includes Advanced Placement and Honors courses, is the core of the Holy Cross tradition of academic excellence. The third component of the Holy Cross vision of educating the whole person, social development, encourages students to become actively involved in the diverse extra-curricular programs, whether it be playing on a team or participating in clubs.
Father Moreau believed in a philosophy of education which encompassed more than academics. Spiritual and social growth were essential to the development of young men and women. Over a century later, we believe these principles to be more important than ever before.
